Fire salamander

The fire salamander - Salamandra salamandra - lives in forests of Central Europe near small ponds or brooks with clear water. Salamanders like to spend most of their time hidden unter fallen leaves and mossy tree trunks. Usually they are active in the evening or at night but on rainy days the can be encounters during daytime as well.
