Grass snake

The grass snake - Natrix natrix - is a semi-aquatic snake. As a strong swimmer it is found near water where it feeds nearly solely on amphibians.

In Baltic mythology Natrix natrix is revered as a sacred animal, protecting the household and a symbol of education and wisdom.
