The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) may look delicate, but it is an extraordinary traveller.
In Europe, its seasonal movements can cover around 3,000 kilometres (1,864 miles), making this small butterfly a remarkable long-distance traveller. It is also a fast-flying species and can travel at considerable speed during migration.
That contrast is what fascinated me about this butterfly:
small creature. Big journey.
This original painting captures Vanessa atalanta in watercolor, with a focus on the intricate patterns, rich colours and delicate structures of its wings.

Once the Drop ends, this original will no longer be available through my shop. The artwork might continue to live on as a fine-art print, but the original will have found its home.
